Image Description: This photograph gives us a curious look at a fuzzy and very green batch of moss on the sides of a flowing river. As this picture indicates, moss patches need a wet environment in which to grow and reproduce successfully, along with enough sunlight to conduct photosynthesis. Given those requirements, this rippling water will provide a great environment for the moss to reproduce and grow close together in clumps or mats. Because moss does not have true roots they do not need much soil to grow, allowing them to grow over bare stone this way. While very nice to look at, anyone trekking over these rocks could easily slip and fall thanks to the wetness and generally sliminess of moss!
