Image Description: This stunning white marble statue of a naked woman is so beautifully detailed that it is hard to believe it was carved by hand. It wasn't until the fourth century BCE that carving anything but men became common in most parts of the world. During the transition from the Classical to the Hellenistic period of Greek history, sculpting became more naturalistic, and common subjects, such as children, women, and animals, became acceptable to depict. Suddenly, very realistic portraits of women and men of all ages, regardless of their physical perfection or beauty, were produced. Nudity was very common in Greek times and men would often walk around nude in bedrooms and at parties, where they would drink, eat, and generally carouse.
