Image Description: This photograph of a measuring tape, also know as a builder’s tape rule, shows the common tool lying on its side, with the tape itself extended to exactly 10 inches. The black switch on the front of the tape measure serves to lock the tape into place, making it easier to measure by freeing up the hand that would otherwise be holding it at length - a real boon, especially when one is working alone! The switch is engaged at the time of being photographed, allowing the tape to remain extended without any human intervention required. Small bits of dust and debris can be seen on the tool; while it is in good shape, it has obviously been used as more than a photographer’s model.
