Image Description: The Statue of Liberty welcomes newcomers from the sea. The face of the Statue of Liberty looking out at the sea and representing the freedoms of the United States. The head and torch-bearing arm of the statue were built years before the rest, and those pieces were on exhibit at the Centennial Exposition in 1876, and then again in Madison Square Park in New York from 1876 until 1882. The face of the Statue of Liberty was modeled after the designer's mother, Charlotte Beysser Bartholdi. This robed female also represents Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom. This freedom is felt deep within the hearts of immigrants who were arriving from abroad; because she stands 93 meters tall from the bottom of the pedestal to the tip of the torch, she is a lady who is hard to miss!
