Cornflag - Free photo for blogs

image name

Image Description: A member of the Gladiolus family common to Europe, the corn flag is a very interesting flower that serves to instantly brighten any garden with its rustic orange petals and tilting head. Given its name due to its propensity to grow in and around corn fields, acting as a flag for those seeking them out, the corn flag grows as a stout green shoot until late spring, when its orange petals begin to appear. Those petals are extremely delicate, growing over and under one another in order to create a variety of landing areas for potentially pollinating insects. At the end of the summer season, though, the corn flag will wilt quickly, retreating until it is ready to bloom again in the new year.
