Image Description: This photo shows us five friendly ducks swimming on a calm day. The majority of ducks are dabbling ducks, sporting the characteristic wide flat beak for dredging jobs such as pulling worms out of mud, pulling up water weeds, and searching for insect larvae, and it also aids in diving down headfirst. These dabbling ducks have comb-like sides on their beaks in order to strain out water and trap any leftover food. This may come as a surprise, but only the female dabbling ducks actually quack; the males never quack, although all ducks have a range of calls that include grunts, whistles, cooing, and yodeling. All ducks enjoy a diet of fish, insects, grasses and aquatic plants, small amphibians, and worms.
