No matter which name you give it, this plant produces that delicious summer squash, sometimes a full meter in length, that finds its way to your plate after it is harvested in late summer. People have traditionally cooked zucchini in a wide variety of ways, and you may be surprised to find out that it is found in everything from breads to pasta sauce to sandwiches to salad, proving itself to be a versatile vegetable. Oh wait, did I say vegetable? While it certainly has that look, the zucchini is actually a fruit, given that it is produced by the ovary of the plant’s flower.
