Image Description: An atrium is a great place to shop and stroll, especially during the winter time when the sunlight is best enjoyed behind 10-story windows or 2000 panes of glass. Atriums are like one giant greenhouse and will typically support a variety of plant and tree life. A famous atrium in New York called the Winter Garden Atrium was, at its creation, connected to the World Trade Center by a 400 foot walking bridge. The atrium was severely damaged during the September 11th, 2001 attacks, with almost all of its 2000 panes of glass being blown out by the dust clouds created by the Twin Towers collapsing. The Winter Garden Atrium was reconstructed in 2002 at a cost of fifty million dollars. It cost 60 million to build in 1988.
