When you are picking wild strawberries or any variety of strawberry, care should be taken when harvesting them. Always pick strawberries individually by hand, leave the caps attached, and allow half an inch of the stem to remain. Strawberries do not continue to ripen after being picked, so only pick the very darkest red and juiciest strawberries.
