Image Description: This small plane is skywriting a message that we can see from the ground. The skywriting technique had been tweaked over the years to maximize the amount of time that the message is readable. A special dot-matrix process helps the message be clearer for longer even with the effects caused by the wind and general dispersal of the smoke. The plane will fly in certain patterns to create a written message; popular messages are marriage proposals, birthday wishes, advertisements, and sometimes just important personal messages. The smoke used for this comes from a smoke generator that houses a pressurized container filled with a low viscosity oil such as Canopus 13. The oil is injected into a hot exhaust manifold, causing the oil to vaporize into huge billows of dense white smoke.
