Image Description: A photograph of the Saint Basil Cathedral image on a flag. The Saint Basil Cathedral has been a hub of growth for the city of Moscow since the 14th century; it actually marks the geometric center of Moscow, and was the the tallest building there until 1600, when the completion of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower took over the claim. The Saint Basil Cathedral was originally known as Trinity Church, and it contained eight small churches arranged around a ninth central church; the tenth and final church was built over the grave of a local saint named Vasily, anglicized as Basil, in 1588. This strange and complex design is like no other Russian building, with a shape like the flame of a bonfire rising up into the sky.
