Kermit is the world famous character created by puppeteer Jim Henson for the Muppet Show. Kermit was first introduced in 1955 and he has had a leading role in The Muppet Show, as well as appearing often in Sesame Street; he has also been in many commercials and public service announcements. At first, Kermit was a lizard-like creature and made numerous television appearances in that form before he was firmly established as a frog. Jim Henson performed Kermit's voice until his death in 1990; now he is voiced by Steve Whitmire. Kermit the Frog received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002, located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd.
