Grey British cat in cage - Free image download

image name

Image Description: This gray Scottish Fold is the quintessential image of cat grace and elegance. They have a naturally dominant gene mutation that causes a fold in the ear cartilage. This gives the cat an owl-like appearance as the ears bend forward on a rounded head, all atop a very short neck. Our four-legged friends come in a variety of coat lengths and colors. They generally have a very good disposition and are intelligent, playful, and inclined to become very attached to their human staff. All Scottish Folds can trace their ancestry back to a feline named Susie Ц she was a white farm cat living in Perthshire, Scotland in 1961. When Susie had a litter, two of the kittens had folded ears Ц kittens start to develop the fold by 21 days old. A cat enthusiast neighbor, William Ross, adopted one and began a breeding program with the assistance of geneticist Pat Turner. In three years, their cats had 76 kittens Ц 34 with straight ears and 42 with folded ears Ц confirming that the fold was caused by a basic dominant gene.
