Image Description: Pine trees represent a long list of tree species, each indigenous to its own local area, but they are all well-known for their unique needles. These needles have evolved as a way of keeping would-be predators from locking their teeth onto the tree’s bark, and the sheer length of them makes each individual poker look dangerous, indeed! While they exist for potentially violent purposes, pine tree needles are known as some of the most beautiful growths of the tree family; the drops of water clinging tenaciously to the needles on this tree are a wonderful example of just why that is, combining the soft with the hard in a great show of the yin and yang of nature.
