Image Description: You won’t find one of these anywhere but in a museum these days, and counterfeiters are surely grumbling at that very fact! This is a coin-press, used from the Late Middle Ages right up until the early 19th century, allowing metal workers to easily cut and imprint coins of various metals with ease, even if only one at a time. With the ever-changing politics of times before us, the ability to quickly change the imprint from the face and words of one ruler to another was necessary, and the simple interchangeable plates inside this press allowed for just that. Those plates are invisible in this case, leaving us to speculate the exact time and place that this coin press was put into service.
