Image Description: A warm sparrow taking a leisurely bath in a summer’s day puddle. Sparrows are normally known to dust (believed to be for antiparasitic purposes) after a water bath, and the frequency of their bathing depends on the season and weather. On a hot summer day, a sparrow may take five or six baths, but in the winter may only bathe once or twice per week. A bird puts a tremendous amount of work into maintaining their intricate feathers, so a lot of care goes into bathing and dusting. Typically after bathing, sparrows will ferociously shake their tails and wings and ruffle all feathers to get off as much water as possible; this is usually followed by an intricate preening session.
